The Burrell Collection: A Journey Through Time
In 1944, Sir William Burrell and his wife, Lady Constance, gifted their extraordinary collection of 9,000 objects to the city of Glasgow. Today, the revitalized Burrell Collection invites you to explore 6,000 years of global history through innovative, immersive displays that bridge the gap between ancient creators and modern visitors.
Global Treasures
The collection is home to world-class masterpieces spanning continents and eras:
• Chinese Art: One of the most significant and expansive collections in the UK.
• Ancient Civilizations: Roman sculptures and Egyptian pottery dating back over 2,000 years.
• Medieval Wonders: A breathtaking array of stained glass, arms and armor, and over 200 world-renowned tapestries.
• Fine Art: Masterpieces by 19th-century French legends, including Manet, Cézanne, and Degas.
Collection Highlights
Don’t miss these three crown jewels during your visit:
1. Princess Cecily (c. 1483–1484): A stunning example of late medieval portraiture.
2. The Red Ballet Skirts by Edgar Degas (c. 1900): A vibrant masterpiece of Impressionist movement.
3. Meiping Vase (Ming Dynasty, 1368–1398): An exquisite rarity from the Hongwu period.

It was one of our excellent experience of our visit to Glasgow.

Pollok Park with Burrell Collection - Convenient parking (£1.5 per hour). You can see the Scotish cows very close.  The Burrell Collection and the building of this museum itself will not leave anyone indifferent. The building seems to exist in the air, everything hints at freshness, light, lightness. Entrance to the museum is free. You can easily spend several hours there...

Fabulous collection. Worth having the guided tour by a knowledgeable staff member. It made the experience so much better and did not cost anything.
I highly recommend leaving a donation, though.
The grounds were massive and we saw some highland cattle.
Also worth mentioning a very good restaurant is located on site.

Not on usual Glasgow sightseeing but a must visit. One can easily spend hours here. The collection has a whole museum, unique artefacts and galleries.

Additionally it’s located inside Pollock country park which has huge grasslands, picnic area, play area, parking, cafes (although cafe closes early so check before you plan)

Fantastic art museum! Great staff too. I loved the artwork, cafe, and gift shop too. The tomato soup and chips were fantastic! Go see the Highland coos in the Pollok Country Park, within walking distance to the Burrell Collection.
